HBO Casts Harry, Hermione, and Ron for Potter Reboot

HBO announced the new leads for its upcoming Potter series. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, Arabella Stanton will take on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will portray Ron Weasley. Notably, the casting followed a global search that attracted tens of thousands of young actors.

The series, meanwhile, will retell all seven books, with each season covering one installment. Production is set to begin in summer 2025, and the first season will debut in 2026.

Here’s the full cast lineup confirmed so far:

  • Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
  • Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
  • Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
  • John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
  • Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
  • Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
  • Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
  • Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

In a joint statement, executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod said, “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

Additionally, J.K. Rowling will join the project as an executive producer. HBO Max plans to stream the series in the U.S. as well as in new international markets.
