After recent photos showed Donald Trump with leg swelling and hand bruising, the White House confirmed that he has a common vein condition. Trump, who is 79, was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency following a full medical review.
CVI is a circulatory issue where the leg veins do not push blood efficiently back to the heart. As a result, blood builds up in the lower limbs, which can lead to swelling and discomfort. The problem is often seen in seniors, especially those in their seventies or older.
In response to the symptoms, doctors ordered ultrasounds of Trump’s legs, a heart scan, and a series of lab tests. Ultimately, all results were within normal limits. They ruled out blood clots, heart trouble, and kidney issues.

Overall, CVI is not a life-threatening issue. Doctors say it can usually be managed with support stockings, regular movement, and avoiding long periods of standing. In more advanced cases, outpatient treatments are available.
