‘Sport Science’ Host John Brenkus Dies at 54

John Brenkus, known for helping fans understand sports through science, died on May 31, at 54. His family shared that he had been dealing with depression for some time.
As host and co-creator of “Sport Science,” Brenkus broke down the science behind amazing plays and athletes. The series aired on both Fox Sports Net and ESPN, winning six Sports Emmy Awards.
He also co-founded BASE Productions and created Brinx TV. In 2010, he published The Perfection Point, a book about athletic limits and what humans are truly capable of.
In a 2023 interview, Brenkus talked about his struggles. “I literally picked up my phone, called my mom, and said: ‘There’s something wrong with me. I am mentally lost.’” He credited his dog and mental health professionals for helping him during a difficult time.
