Israel launched Operation Rising Lion on June 13, a direct attack on Iran’s top military command and nuclear program. The Israeli Air Force deployed more than 200 jets to bomb sites, including the Natanz enrichment center and multiple missile bases. Mossad coordinated covert operations using drones and explosives placed throughout Iran.

Iran’s official channels confirmed that Israeli strikes killed IRGC Commander-in-Chief Major General Hossein Salami, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, and Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh. The operation also killed prominent nuclear scientists, including Dr. Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani, a former head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization. Civilian deaths in Tehran rose to 78, with another 329 injured, according to health officials.

Iran responded by launching 100+ drones, most of which Israeli and allied forces intercepted. Iran’s government halted nuclear negotiations and declared a state of national defense readiness.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized, “We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.”

A senior Iranian official added, “The response to the Israeli attack will be harsh and decisive … discussions are underway at the highest levels.”
