Nintendo has selected Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth to lead its live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Shigeru Miyamoto announced the casting on July 16, 2025, through a post on Nintendo’s official X profile.

Director Wes Ball, best known for The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will helm the project. The film is scheduled to release on May 7, 2027. In addition, Avi Arad will co-produce the movie alongside Miyamoto, while Sony Pictures will manage global distribution.

Bragason, 21, has appeared in British series such as Three Girls and The Jetty, and most recently starred in Renegade Nell on Disney+. Meanwhile, Ainsworth, 16, gained recognition for his role in The Haunting of Bly Manor and for voicing the title character in Disney’s live-action Pinocchio.
