Liverpool Star Diogo Jota and Brother Die in Car Crash

Diogo Jota, a soccer star for Liverpool and Portugal, died in a car accident in Spain on July 3. He was 28. His younger brother, André Silva, also died in the crash.
The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. on the A‑52 motorway near Cernadilla, Zamora. According to police, a suspected tyre blowout caused Jota’s Lamborghini to veer off the road, overturn, and catch fire. Both men died at the scene.
Silva, 25, played professionally for Portuguese side Penafiel.
Jota moved to Liverpool in 2020 and became one of the club’s top forwards. He netted 65 goals in 182 appearances and helped secure the 2024–25 league title. On the international stage, he played 49 games and scored 14 goals for Portugal.
Just two weeks earlier, he had married Rute Cardoso. The couple had three children.
