Chris Brown Arrested in UK Over 2023 Assault Allegation
Manchester police arrested Chris Brown in connection with a nightclub assault that allegedly occurred in early 2023. The incident adds to the singer’s ongoing legal challenges.
Officers detained the 36-year-old at The Lowry Hotel shortly after 2 a.m. They suspect Brown took part in a violent attack on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district.
Music producer Abe Diaw says Brown struck him in the head with a Don Julio tequila bottle and continued beating him after the initial blow. Diaw says he briefly lost consciousness and sustained serious injuries that required medical care and extended physical therapy.
In October 2023, Diaw filed a civil lawsuit seeking $16 million in damages. He cites both physical injuries and defamation, claiming Brown falsely accused him of theft and damaged his reputation in the music industry.
“What happened that night changed more than my health,” Diaw said. “It affected how people in the business see me.”

Brown’s arrest comes just ahead of his planned UK shows for the “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, which marks 20 years since his debut. The tour includes stops in Cardiff, Birmingham, and London. So far, organizers have not adjusted the schedule.
Scotland Yard confirmed the arrest and assigned the investigation to detectives from the Central West Area. Although they have not filed charges yet, they continue to examine the case.
Brown has previously faced legal consequences. In 2009, a court convicted him of assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna. In 2017, a judge issued a restraining order against him after actress Karrueche Tran filed a claim.
