Antonio Brown Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge, Extradited to Miami
Former NFL star Antonio Brown is back in the headlines — and not for anything happening on the field. The 37-year-old ex–wide receiver was arrested in Dubai and extradited to Miami to face a second-degree attempted murder charge tied to a shooting earlier this year.
A Fight That Turned Into a Felony

The charge stems from an incident on May 16, 2025, outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami’s Little Haiti. According to police reports, Brown got into an argument that escalated into a fight. He allegedly grabbed a gun from a security guard and fired two shots at another man — identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu — whom he’d reportedly clashed with earlier that night.
One bullet grazed the victim’s neck. He was treated for minor injuries and survived. Brown left the scene before police arrived, and a warrant for his arrest was issued weeks later.
The June 2025 warrant charged Brown with attempted murder with a firearm, a felony that carries up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
Arrested Abroad, Back to Face Charges
Authorities say Brown left the U.S. after the incident. He was later located in Dubai, where U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement arrested him in late October.
By November 6, 2025, Brown had been flown back to the United States and booked into Essex County Jail in New Jersey before being transferred to Miami-Dade County. Police confirmed his extradition, saying they’re working with federal agencies to bring him before a Florida judge.
Brown hasn’t entered a plea yet, but his team says he plans to fight the charge.
Brown Speaks Out: “I Was Jumped”
In an interview with People magazine before his arrest, Brown claimed he was the victim that night. He said he was attacked by multiple people trying to steal his jewelry and that he blacked out during the fight due to possible CTE symptoms from years of head trauma.
“I didn’t try to harm anyone,” Brown said. “I was scared. I’ve taken too many hits to the head, and sometimes I lose track of what’s real.”
His legal team has echoed those comments, saying Brown acted in self-defense and has been dealing with ongoing mental health struggles since his NFL career ended.
From Superstar to Scandal
Once one of the NFL’s biggest names — with 928 catches, 12,291 yards, and a Super Bowl ring — Antonio Brown’s life off the field has taken a sharp turn. Between suspensions, bankruptcy, and public meltdowns, the former All-Pro has become one of the sport’s most polarizing figures.
Now, with an attempted murder charge on his record and a trial ahead, Brown’s story has shifted from sports highlight reels to courtroom headlines — a reminder of how fast fame can fade when chaos takes the wheel.
