The Federal Trade Commission is refunding $126 million to Fortnite players across the U.S. These players paid for in-game items they didn’t intend to buy. This payment marks the second major refund under the agency’s settlement with Epic Games.

In December 2024, the FTC delivered $72 million in refunds. This time, it is issuing nearly 969,000 payments through checks and PayPal. Previously, most recipients collected about $114 each.

To include more players, the FTC reopened the claims process. Now, anyone who missed the original deadline can apply until July 9, 2025. To qualify, you must meet one of these conditions:

  • You paid for unwanted Fortnite items between January 2017 and September 2022
  • Your child made unauthorized purchases between January 2017 and November 2018
  • You lost access to your account after challenging a charge

The FTC said Epic Games used misleading menu layouts that caused accidental purchases. In some cases, the company locked accounts when players requested refunds.

Epic Games acknowledged the issue. The company said, “We accepted this agreement because we want to be at the forefront of consumer protection and provide the best experience for our players.”

To request a refund, visit www.ftc.gov. Enter your claim number or Epic account ID. You don’t need to pay anything. If you receive a check, cash it within 90 days. If you use PayPal, access the funds within 30 days.
