2025 Tony Awards: Highlights and Winners

The 78th Tony Awards took place at Radio City Music Hall on June 8, celebrating Broadway’s newest milestones. Cynthia Erivo served as host, guiding a night filled with emotion, tribute, and recognition.

“Maybe Happy Ending” led the ceremony, winning six awards. Darren Criss, who received Best Actor in a Musical, offered a heartfelt thank you to his wife: “The real hero about this for this remarkable journey is my wife, Mia, who took a massive swing on allowing me to do this… You’re the very pedestal that upholds the shiny spinny bit in our lives.”

“Purpose,” written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, earned Best Play. Kara Young, honored for her performance in the play, became the first Black performer to win Best Featured Actress in a Play two years in a row.

Nicole Scherzinger, winning Best Actress in a Musical for her role in “Sunset Boulevard,” shared this message: “If there’s anyone who feels like they don’t belong or your time hasn’t come, don’t give up. Just keep on giving and giving, because the world needs your love and your light more than ever. This is a testament that love always wins.”

Sarah Snook received Best Actress in a Play for her one-woman performance in “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” Cole Escola took home Best Actor in a Play for “Oh, Mary!” and became the first openly non-binary winner in that category.
