Susan Dell, co-founder of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, began 2025 with a major announcement. She and her husband, Michael Dell, committed US$6.25 billion to expand the federal child investment program known as “Trump Accounts.” As a result, this became one of the largest private donations focused on children in U.S. history.

The federal Invest America plan launched in 2025. Under this program, each child born from 2025 to 2028 receives US$1,000 in an investment account. The funds stay invested until age 18. At that point, they can be used for education, job training, housing, or starting a business.

The Dell pledge extends support to millions of children who do not qualify under the federal rules. Through their foundation, 25 million children under age 10 will now receive US$250 each. In addition, the program targets households earning roughly US$150,000 or less. Analysts note that this private funding could change long-term wealth-building for many families.

Part of a Long-Term Philanthropic Strategy

The 2025 pledge fits into Susan Dell’s long-standing work in global philanthropy. Since 1999, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has committed nearly US$3 billion to education, health, and economic mobility efforts. As a result, millions of children benefit from its programs each year.

Key focus areas include:

  • Education access: Student support, school data tools, and the Dell Scholars program
  • Health initiatives: Major gifts to Dell Medical School and Dell Children’s Medical Center
  • Economic mobility: Funding for microfinance and small-business support programs

Today, the foundation manages more than 800 active projects across the U.S., India, and South Africa. In addition, the 2025 donation strengthens its mission to support families at scale.

A Record of Public Service and Recognition

Susan Dell has also served on several national and state-level boards. She was a member of President George W. Bush’s Council for Physical Fitness and Sports. She also worked with the Cooper Institute, which focuses on community health and fitness. Her leadership during the Hurricane Harvey recovery effort led to her induction into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame.

Why 2025 Marks a Turning Point

The 2025 pledge signals a key moment in Susan Dell’s philanthropic work. It expands a major federal program and gives millions of children a stronger financial start. Therefore, many experts see it as one of the most influential donations of the decade.
