Houston Rodeo 2026: What You Need to Know
If you’ve lived in Houston for a while, you know that when rodeo season hits, the city changes. Music fills the air, BBQ smoke is everywhere, carnival rides pop up, and suddenly everyone seems to be wearing boots — even people who never normally do.
I’ve been going to the rodeo for years, and Houston Rodeo 2026 is shaping up to be one of the best yet.
Here’s everything I think you should know before you go.
When Is Houston Rodeo 2026?
For 2026, the rodeo runs March 2 to March 22 — that’s 21 days of rodeo competitions, concerts, food, and carnival fun. If you want to get a real taste of the city’s pre-rodeo energy, I highly recommend checking out the Houston Rodeo 2026 Cookoff, which happens February 26–28.
Trust me, the cookoff is its own event. You’ll see rows of tents with chefs cooking some of the best BBQ you’ll ever taste. Even if you’re not a foodie, just walking through the grounds gives you that festival feeling before the rodeo officially starts.
What Time of Year Are Rodeos in Texas?
Texas rodeos usually happen in late February through March, and Houston is no exception.
The weather’s perfect this time of year — not too hot, not too cold — so you can enjoy the rodeo, concerts, and carnival without feeling like you’re melting under the sun.
If you’re new to Texas, this is the best season to experience a true Houston tradition.
Houston Rodeo 2026 Music Lineup
We don’t have the full Houston Rodeo 2026 music lineup yet, but we already know a few important things:

As someone who goes more for the concerts than the rodeo competitions, the lineup matters a lot — and 2026 is shaping up to have a strong mix.
Houston Rodeo 2026 Tickets
Here’s what I usually tell people planning to go:
- Grounds passes are great if you just want carnival rides, food, and exhibits. I usually do this with friends who aren’t into rodeo competitions.
- Rodeo + concert tickets give you full access to both the stadium show and nightly concerts.
- Tickets go on sale January 15, 2026, and some nights, especially the Cody Johnson finale, sell out quickly.
- The last night (March 22) is concert-only, but the grounds and carnival remain open, perfect if you want the party atmosphere without the rodeo.
Why You Should Go
Honestly, the rodeo isn’t just about bull-riding or livestock. It’s the food, the carnival, the live music, and the energy. Walking around the grounds, smelling the BBQ, catching a concert, or riding a Ferris wheel at night — that’s the Houston rodeo experience.
