Billy Joel Cancels Tour Due to Brain Condition

Billy Joel called off his entire tour schedule following a diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition that disrupts key brain functions like balance, vision, and hearing. The 76-year-old artist confirmed the diagnosis after he experienced a fall during a February show in Connecticut.
During that concert at Mohegan Sun Arena, Joel lost his footing while performing “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.” He completed the performance but later pulled back from touring to seek medical advice. Health experts describe NPH as a frequently overlooked condition that is sometimes treatable with surgical intervention.
Following his diagnosis, Joel started physical therapy and canceled all concerts through July 2026. His representatives said recent shows had worsened his condition. Now, 17 planned events across cities like New York, Toronto, and Liverpool will not go forward. Refunds for tickets will be issued automatically.

Joel addressed his fans directly, saying, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.” He also noted the support he’s receiving, calling it “excellent care.”
Looking ahead, Joel hopes to recover fully and eventually return to the stage. Until then, fans can catch his upcoming HBO documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, which debuts in June at the Tribeca Festival.
