Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Mexican content creator and business owner, was shot and killed while livestreaming on TikTok. The attack took place inside her salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge, located in a commercial plaza in Zapopan, Jalisco.

Márquez had been broadcasting live to her followers when a man walked into the salon posing as a delivery driver. After confirming her name, he drew a weapon and opened fire, striking her in the head and torso. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Márquez had already died from her injuries. The attacker immediately fled the scene on a motorcycle and remains unidentified.

Before the shooting, Márquez had built a strong online following of more than 100,000 across TikTok and Instagram. She regularly posted hairstyling tutorials, beauty content, and scenes from her day-to-day life.

Authorities in Jalisco have launched an investigation and are treating the case as a potential femicide. They are now reviewing footage from the livestream and nearby security cameras in an effort to track the suspect.

Here’s what is confirmed:

  • Victim: Valeria Márquez, age 23
  • Date: May 13, 2025
  • Location: Blossom The Beauty Lounge Salon, Zapopan, Mexico
  • Incident: Shot during a livestream by an unknown man
  • Suspect: Fled on a motorcycle; no arrest made yet
  • Current Status: Investigation active; treated as potential femicide

According to El País, Márquez had previously reported receiving threats from a former partner. This has led investigators to consider personal motives in their inquiry.

“She kept showing up, doing her work, even when she was scared,” one client told, anonymously. “She wanted to live her life in peace.”

Gender-based violence remains a critical issue in Mexico. In 2023, officials recorded over 900 femicide cases. Advocacy groups believe the real number may be much higher due to underreporting and misclassification.

Following the shooting, community members placed flowers, candles, and photos outside the shuttered salon. Across social media, fans and fellow influencers have expressed outrage and grief. Many are demanding stronger protections for women, particularly those in the public eye.

As the investigation continues, officials urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
