Janet Jackson takes stage at 2025 AMAs with Icon Award

Janet Jackson stepped back into the TV spotlight at the 2025 American Music Awards on May 26. It was her first live TV performance in seven years, and she was honored with the Icon Award.
Jackson performed “Someone to Call My Lover” and “All for You” in a white bomber jacket and jeans. The show included dancing and a guitar solo. Actress Tasha Smith gave the introduction before Jackson took the stage.
Accepting the award, Jackson said, “I am so, so honored. I am so grateful. I mean no disrespect in any way, but I don’t consider myself an icon.” She explained, “My family, myself—our dream wasn’t ever to be famous. We weren’t raised like that. We always had a special love for music, dancing, and singing, and fame came with the result of hard work and dedication.”
- First live TV performance since 2018
- Two songs: “Someone to Call My Lover” and “All for You”
- Icon Award introduced by Tasha Smith
- Jackson’s Las Vegas residency continues through September 2025
- Holder of 11 AMAs and 5 Grammy Awards
She added, “My story, my family’s story, it’s truly an American story,” and thanked fans and God: “Because of you and God, I’m standing right here. I want to thank the AMAs … —and last but not least, I … God in every part of your life … .”
The moment marked her return to award show performances and added to her career’s legacy.
